Bridget's Link on Changing Indian Culture
The article, Changing Values in Indian Culture, provides an interesting view on the effects of modernization in India. It shows both sides, the positive and negative effects, and then goes on to offer an opinion on how to solve the negative effects. The textbook describes mainly positive effects, so it is helpful to get an educated perspective on the negative effects of modernization as well. This educational blog does a very thorough job of explaining each effect and the writing style is easy to
understand. One negative of this site is that it doesn't provide information on how modernization began in India, but that information is not included in section 4 of chapter 9 in the textbook. That information comes earlier so students should begin this section already knowing how modernization started in India. Since the students would already know about how modernization starts in India, they will have the necessary background knowledge to fully understand the site, eliminating the problem. Overall, this site contains valuable information pertaining to the changing Indian culture and adds depth to the learning presented in the textbook.
